Russian forces are reported to have reached the eastern edge of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, as they encircle the city.

More than half the city’s population is said to have fled. Many who remain are living without food or heating.

The mayor of Kyiv has said the city is now a fortress as Ukrainian forces prepare for an all-out Russian assault.
