New York Republican George Santos is under fire for embellishing his personal background. Now, his lies are turning into potential legal battles.

The representative has been under fire for lying about his education and work history. He admitted to embellishing his resume and religion, called himself Jewish before pivoting to say he’s “Jew-ish.”

Santos’ colleagues in the House have called for him to resign over the lies, including former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, R-Wis., who said Santos “hoaxed his voters.” The Nassau County District Attorney in Santos’ district launched an investigation into the representative.

Despite the calls to resign, Santos has said he will serve out his term.
