The Supreme Court on June 24 overturned the fundamental right to abortion established nearly 50 years ago in Roe v. Wade, a stunning reversal that leaves states free to drastically reduce or even outlaw a procedure. “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives,” wrote Justice Samuel Alito.
In response to the court’s decision, President Biden called on congress to codify Roe v. Wade into law. “And if Congress, as it appears, [does not have the] votes to do that now, voters need to make their voices heard this fall,” Biden said.
