At least eight people have been stabbed in a ‘major incident’ in Southport, Merseyside.
The UK’s North West Ambulance Service says it was called to a property, with reports of ‘multiple stabbings’, and paramedics have treated eight patients with stab injuries.
The victims have been taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Aintree University Hospital and Southport and Formby Hospital.
Armed police have detained a man and seized a knife.
Police have asked the public to avoid the area. Officials say there is no wider threat to the public.
