On the 1000th day of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, President Vladimir Putin signed a revised nuclear doctrine declaring that a conventional attack on Russia by any nation that is supported by a nuclear power will be considered a joint attack on his country.

The decision follows U.S. President Joe Biden’s decision to let Ukraine strike targets inside Russia with U.S.-supplied long-range missiles.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that an attack on Russia’s Bryansk region by Ukraine using U.S.-supplied ATACMS missiles was a clear signal that the West wanted to escalate the Ukraine conflict.
