Belarus used one of its fighter jets to intercept an Irish passenger plane on Sunday. Security officials detained Roman Protasevich, a journalist who opposes Belarus’ president Alexander Lukashenko. Authorities ordered the pilot to divert because of a “security threat.” Elizabeth Palmer reports.

Something else is going on here. Rationally speaking, they won't go as far as sending fighter jet for just a normal "journalist." This isn't comic book villain, the government of a nation, even a small one, don't act irrationally. Ruthless =/= irrational. If it's just a reporter writing bad stories, it doesn't justify creating much more damaging news this way. He's either an agent doing something important, or an opposition leader much higher up the totem pole, basically someone worth it. Not an ordinary "journalist."
Btw, I wish MSM stop calling these types of people "journalists." It hampers the work and safety of actual journalists.
This is just the beginning of this type of illegal actions. Using a military plane to detain a private citizen is illegal and will lead to severe reactions.
What will Bald & Bankrupt do now?
Allies should restrict ALL their flights from entering Belarus airspace AND restrict all flights from Belarus from entering their airspace.
WESTERN HYPOCRISY? In 2013, President Evo Morales' plane had to make an emergency landing in Austria at the behest of the United States during the hunt for National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden. The ex-CIA agent has never been on board

Uh oh…Lord Voldemort can't help either
I'll give you one chance to tell me exactly who this kid reminds you of. Hint: American kid arrested last year
This is an ACT OF WAR.
Belarus is being ruled by a modern-day Hitler.
They can stop flying close to Belarus airspace.
Double standards and hypocracy in Europe and USA. Year 2009 the USA forced bolivian president Morales aircraft to land in Vienne on its way from Russia because yankees suspected Edward Snowden was on board. The usa didn’t find snowden. Why there was no whyning in Europe back then? Europe and USA should mind their own business and stop exporting wars and instability in the world through their neo-colonial politics.
“But Julian Assange and Snowden are ‘criminals.”
Debatable.
What’s not debatable: Belarus considers this guy a criminal and he is now in jail and will remain there.
Don’t like it? Tough cookies! You’re not the arbitrator of that.
Perhaps this "journalist" Roman Protasevich should get the same great treatment the United States and United Kingdom have extended to Julian Assange.
