Join Post reporters as President Biden addresses relations between the United States and China after meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping for the first time in a year. The face-to-face meeting came after both leaders traveled to San Francisco for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference.

Biden and Xi have both signaled interest in stabilizing the U.S.-China relationship in the face of tensions related to the countries’ fierce economic rivalry, China’s response to then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan last year and Biden ordering the shoot-down of a Chinese spy balloon that traveled over the United States in February. Military communications, climate change, macroeconomic stability and violence in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip were all likely topics of discussion.

Biden’s news conference comes amid growing international concern about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and as more than 200 people kidnapped by Hamas remain in captivity. Domestically, Washington is staring down another government shutdown deadline and reacting to last week’s elections, in which Democrats performed well as the issue of abortion rights propelled voters to the polls.
