Firefighters are still struggling to contain the wildfires raging across Los Angeles for four days.

The US National Guard has been deployed and nightime curfews announced in some areas, to prevent looting. President Biden has said the city resembles a ‘war scene.’

Around 10 thousand homes and buildings have been destroyed. Early estimates suggest the cost of the damage may amount to $150 billion dollars.

Fire authorities are admitting they do not have enough resources to tackle the biggest wildfires ever seen in the Los Angeles area.

Powerful winds and parched ground after months with little rain have contributed o the disaster. Scientists studying climate change have confirmed that 2024 was the hottest ever recorded, with temperatures 1.6 degrees higher than the pre-industrial average.
