The CIA is reportedly going into overdrive nurturing its contacts and growing its vast network of spies and informants in Pakistan, with the ultimate aim of exploiting connections between Pakistani extremist elements, including Taliban, with the Taliban currently in control of Afghanistan. The development suggests that despite US military withdrawal and the official conclusion of 20 years of war in Afghanistan, the US is going to continue its efforts in that country by more covert means. However, this comes at a time when US spies in the region are more and more subject to exposure, turning up dead, or switching their allegiance and siding with those they once worked to infiltrate and subvert.
