Fireball appears in WA sky | ABC NEWS 
After some time I felt the need to have my yearly dose of America V8 sounds and I took the opportunity to go and attend the usual spring drag racing weekend organized by the guys of AMP – American Motors Pavia at Rivanazzano Dragway, a temporary strip located in the North-West of Italy.
Rivanazzano is the only place where you can experience a glimpse of American drag racing culture in Italy twice a year: in this period with the ”Wide Open Spring National” and the second weekend of September with the ”Hills Race”. Any car can take part in ”Wide Open”, instead for ‘Hills Race” only American cars and air-cooled Volkswagens are allowed.
Participants are generally divided into 3 big classes: A-Class (divided into A1, A2 and A3, in ascending order of performance), Pro ET and Super Pro ET.
Pro ET class is generally for those cars with an ‘E.T.’ (Elapsed Time) of 9-11.99 seconds, while Super Pro ET includes those who can manage to clock a time in the 6-8.99 seconds region. A-Class is for all cars which are still closer to their stock performance or have less mods.
The video is from the second day of qualifying sessions, during which each driver has as his opponent the stopwatch and his declared ‘ET’ time. The more the driver manages to get close to his declared time, the better his ranking position will be ahead of the Sunday’s elimination race.
Being this dragway located on the little Rivanazzano’s airport, which is used only for private aircrafts, the condition and grip of the strip aren’t as great as a permanent dragways and especially during the first two days of qualifying the level of grip increases session after session. More than 80 drivers attended the event from various European nations!
