In a major press conference, Lavrov accused the US of triggering the conflict by unilaterally abandoning the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA) and blamed Western powers for disrupting regional normalization between Iran and Arab states. He cautioned that NATO is being drawn into the conflict, expanding beyond its mandate, and warned the war is destroying vital energy infrastructure in the Persian Gulf.
