New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd has labelled the Democratic party’s removal of US President Joe Biden a “coup”.
Dowd’s article, published on Sunday, wrote that Biden’s ousting from the presidency was orchestrated by top Democrats.
“Even though it was the right thing to do because Joe Biden was not going to be able to campaign, much less serve as president for another four years, in a fully vital way, it was a jaw-dropping putsch,” she wrote.
Following a disastrous presidential debate performance, Biden faced calls to step down as president.
Not long after, the 81-year-old president announced his decision not to run for re-election and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.
