Long before the invasion of Ukraine, Moscow used its state run media outlets like Sputnik and RT to spread misinformation across the globe, and in many languages. Although both are now banned in the West, there are still areas of the globe where Russian disinformation is not only allowed to flourish but is perceived as credible and favored over Western media.
